Continuing education

This conference is jointly sponsored by USF Health and APOS.

You may elect to receive continuing education credit for your participation when you register for the conference. A one-time fee of $50 applies regardless of the number or type of continuing education credits.

Physicians

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of USF Health and the American Psychosocial Oncology Society. USF Health is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. USF Health designates this live activity for a maximum of 19.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses

The University of South Florida College of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

A maximum of 19 contact hours may be earned by learners who successfully complete this continuing nursing education activity.

Psychologists

USF Health is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. This activity is offered for up to 19.25 hours of continuing education credit. USF Health maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

Florida Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Licensed Mental Health Counselors

USF Health is an approved provider (BAP#433 – Exp. 3/31/13) of continuing education credits for clinical social work, marriage and family therapy and mental health counseling. This program has been reviewed and approved for up to 23.1, 50 minute contact hours.

Clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists and mental health counselors licensed outside the state of Florida should submit their certificate of attendance to the appropriate agency to receive their contact hours

Learning objectives

As a result of attending the APOS 8th Annual Conference, participants will be able to

1. Create and collaborate with multidisciplinary networks of researchers, clinical practitioners and advocacy groups in order to enhance the dissemination of improvements in psychosocial research and /or clinical practice.
2. Identify mechanisms to advance psychosocial cancer research and/or practice throughout the lifespan of cancer patients.
3. Articulate at least two specific methods of clinical practice to translate research findings into evidence-based clinical and educational programs in the area of psychosocial oncology (i.e. needs assessment, screening, patient navigation, survivorship care plans and their implementation). 
4. Articulate the importance of psychosocial assessment and referrals for various populations across the lifespan.
5. Identify the common elements of a quantifiable action plan that integrates at least two specific quality indicators for psychosocial care.
6. Identify strategies to develop research and/or practice in the face of limited resources.
7. Identify common ethical issues and solutions encountered in psychosocial oncology.
